Real experiences from trainees who completed placements at Second Chance
Maria Rodriguez, LCSW
MSW Practicum Alumni → Employed Clinician
“My practicum at Second Chance completely changed my understanding of social work. I learned integrated care, trauma-informed practice, and housing navigation — skills I use every day. They hired me as an ASW after graduation, and I’m now accruing my LCSW hours while receiving Workforce Fellowship support.”
James Chen, PA-C
PA Student → Full-Time Provider
“My family medicine rotation here was the most impactful clinical experience of PA school. I saw how integrated care actually works — behavioral health consultations happening in real time, case managers coordinating housing, medical providers addressing the whole person. I knew I wanted to work here, and I’ve been here three years now.”
Ashley Thompson, RN, BSN
Nursing Student → Staff RN
“I completed my community health rotation and capstone here. The preceptors were incredible — they taught me about social determinants of health, cultural competence, and patient advocacy. When I graduated, they offered me a full-time RN position. I’m now part of the mobile health unit team, bringing care directly to people experiencing homelessness.”
