Common Questions About Getting Care in Las Vegas
Plain-language answers to the questions people most often ask about behavioral health, medical care, and community resources in Las Vegas, Nevada.
How can I get mental health care in Las Vegas without insurance?
Uninsured residents can get behavioral health care through community health organizations that offer income-based pricing. Second Chance Community Health in Las Vegas provides therapy, psychiatry, and substance-use treatment on a sliding fee scale for uninsured patients and also accepts Nevada Medicaid. You can call (702) 518-6244, schedule online, or walk in during business hours — no one is turned away for inability to pay.
Does Nevada Medicaid cover therapy, counseling, and psychiatric care?
Yes. Nevada Medicaid covers a range of behavioral health services, including individual therapy, counseling, group therapy, psychiatric evaluation, and medication management. Second Chance Community Health accepts Nevada Medicaid for these services.
What is integrated care, and why does it matter?
Integrated care brings medical care, behavioral health, and social supports (such as housing) together in one coordinated team rather than treating them separately. It improves outcomes because providers share records, coordinate treatment, and address the whole person. Second Chance Community Health delivers integrated care in Las Vegas, and documented outcomes include an 85% reduction in emergency-room visits among clients.
What is a sliding fee scale?
A sliding fee scale adjusts the cost of care based on a patient’s household income and size, so people pay an amount they can reasonably afford. It is how community health organizations like Second Chance keep care accessible for uninsured and low-income patients — care is not free, but it is affordable.
What is Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for addiction?
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) combines FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral therapy to treat substance use disorders, especially opioid and alcohol use disorder. Second Chance Community Health coordinates MAT alongside counseling and relapse-prevention support.
What’s the difference between a therapist and a psychiatrist?
A therapist (such as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker) provides talk therapy and counseling. A psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner is a medical provider who can prescribe and manage medication. At Second Chance Community Health, therapists and psychiatric providers work together as one team, so you can receive therapy and medication management in the same place.
Where can I get help during a mental health crisis in Las Vegas?
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911. For 24/7 crisis support, call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or text “HOPE” to 741741. Second Chance Community Health also offers crisis support at (702) 518-6244 and walk-in crisis services during business hours at 6396 McLeod Drive, Las Vegas.
How do I get help with housing if I’m experiencing homelessness in Las Vegas?
Community health organizations can connect you with transitional housing and case management. Second Chance Community Health offers transitional housing for individuals and families, daily meals, 24/7 support staff, and case managers who help you work toward permanent housing — alongside medical and behavioral health care.

Behavioral health treatment can help with depression, anxiety, PTSD and trauma, bipolar disorder, ADHD, psychotic disorders, sleep problems, and substance use disorders, among others. Second Chance Community Health treats these conditions with therapy, psychiatry, and integrated medical support in Las Vegas.
Do I have to live in a certain area to be seen?
