Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the Workforce Fellowship program

Yes! Many fellows receive tuition support while completing their degree, then transition to loan repayment once licensed. The programs can be combined sequentially. For example, you could receive tuition support during your MSW program, then upon licensure as an LCSW, begin the loan repayment program for your existing student debt.

Fellowship benefits are contingent on continued employment. If you voluntarily leave before completing your service commitment, future disbursements will cease, but you are not required to repay funds already received. However, if termination is due to performance issues or policy violations, Second Chance Community Health reserves the right to seek repayment of funds disbursed in the current academic year or milestone period.

The Workforce Fellowship is designed to complement federal programs like NHSC. You can receive NHSC loan repayment and Second Chance internal funding simultaneously, as they are separate funding sources. Our team will help you navigate both applications to maximize your total support. Note that NHSC has its own eligibility requirements and application process independent of our internal fellowship.

Fellowship awards are contingent on available funding each fiscal year. While Second Chance is committed to supporting workforce development, awards depend on organizational budget approval and donor contributions. Current fellows are given priority for continued funding, but all participants should be aware that funding is not guaranteed beyond the current award period. We provide advance notice if funding availability changes.

Yes! We encourage current employees to apply for fellowship support before beginning their academic programs. In fact, applying early allows us to plan for your educational timeline and ensure funding is allocated. You’ll need to provide proof of acceptance to an accredited program and expected enrollment dates. Tuition support begins once you’re officially enrolled.
